After I’d finishing preaching at an Iranian Church in Derby, I asked if anyone wanted any prayer, to which there was only one person in the room who came forward, so when I asked him what he wanted prayer for he said that he’d received some prayer the previous weekend for pains in his back but that it was only 99% healed. Just great, I’d sat through 8 songs of Iranian worship and spoken all that through an interpreter and the only person who wanted any prayer, was a guy just needing 1%! You have to laugh! So I gently placed my hand upon his back and prayed and he went completely out in the Holy Spirit, leapt up off the floor and started shouting and declaring that he was completely healed! Halleluiah! Although I have to say that I wasn’t expecting his healing to be so dramatic.
Well, at that moment, a Muslim guy ran towards me and threw himself down on his knees and begged me to pray for him to receive the Holy Spirit. Wow! When I think of all the tiresome lengthy debates I’ve had with Muslims that I’ve encountered in the past arguing out the truth, compared with this when he was convinced by just witnessing the power of the Holy Spirit – awesome! After he gave his heart to Jesus, while I prayed for him, he started convulsing and cried out as an unclean spirit left him! Praise God! Well, this started a stampede of everyone in the room now wanting prayer!
The woman at the front of the mob was now explaining that she was going to hospital in a few weeks because she had lost all the strength in her left arm, which made me wonder why she wasn’t the first person to come forward for prayer in the first place! The interpreter said that she hadn’t even got the strength to lift up a cup of tea. So I shouted for someone to make a cuppa for her and at that moment the Holy Spirit told me to get her to squeeze my hand while I pray and, wow, as I prayed she squeezed my hand so hard that my fingers turned white! Amen! At that moment, someone passed me the freshly made cup of tea for her to hold and, when I turned back to pass it to her, she just collapsed backward out in the Spirit, leaving me with the cuppa – bonus!
The next woman came forward and the interpreter said, “This lady’s father has cancer and she believes that if you pray for her, God will heal him”. I was just astounded by her faith; the faith in the room had risen from 1% to this level in a matter of minutes! When the Holy Spirit moves, nothing is impossible! In my mind, I was questioning how we would know if he were healed? But as I prayed for her, although her eyelids were shut, I could see her eyes moving frantically! When I finished praying, I asked her what God had showed her and, through the interpreter, she said that God had shown her a picture of her father and that she knew he was healed! Wow! Amen! I was just blown away by the possibilities of God.
Next was a young man who wanted to give his life to Jesus and receive the Holy Spirit. He said that he had some stomach pains and an area in his leg had no feeling from a previous operation. Well, after I finished praying, he said that he had been completely healed and restored! Amen! I had to smile when he asked me how long it would last? I told him “as long as you believe!” And there were many more – what an epic evening! I never expected to witness so many healings and deliverances in one night! God can really do the impossible.
I think what amazed me the most was when, about a year later, I was driving through Normanton, which is Derby’s heavily populated multicultural area, and while I was stuck in traffic, I could hear a faint noise. So I opened the car window to listen, and I could hear the sound of guitar and singing. And as the traffic started moving, I could see the young guy who received Jesus with the healing now singing and praising God with his friends in the street! I just love to see God transforming people’s lives.
