It is God that loved us first and called us out of darkness into the light. We were ignorant unbelievers at first, not knowing or understanding the world of eternal salvation. Yet many who have come to accept Jesus, now knowing they are the children of God continue to remain attached to this world, failing to separate themselves from the things of this world. Jesus says that unless we are born again of water, cleansed and repentant from our past and born again believing and receiving the Holy Spirit, we will not enter into the kingdom of God. If the prodigal son did not humble himself, repent and return to his father to serve his father, he would not receive all the gifts and rewards his father had set aside for him. Indeed God, reached out and loved us first regardless of our sinful state but only those who are repentant, who believe in their heart and do the will of God can enter the kingdom of God.
