The Holy Spirit Church for Today |
Do you know what following Jesus Christ is about? It's about victory over death. We all have to die but where do we go after we die? When Jesus was crucified, the people of Abraham had known about His impending appearance and coming. This knowledge had been passed down from generation to generation. At that time, they were being ruled by the Romans and they thought that a Saviour would appear to rescue them from their situation. They thought He would come, become King over them and they would be saved. What they did not know was that Jesus would indeed come but to save them from death and not the situation they were in. But how do we get victory over death - by just believing and just going to church? See, Jesus had died in the flesh and rose in the Spirit three days later. He appeared to His disciples so that they would witness that He did indeed rise from the dead. 1 Corinthians 15:6 states, "After that, he appeared to more than 500 brothers and sisters at one time, most of whom are still living". These were some of those who recorded not only in the bible of this happening, but it is also in history that this happened! Jesus showed how He had victory over death! And how do we get victory over death? When we truly believe that Jesus died for us so that we might receive the Holy Spirit. John 1:12 states "Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God" If you believe and receive Jesus into your life, you become the child of God. And when you have received the Holy Spirit, you are sealed with a promise of eternal life, a life after death. Ephesians 1:13 - And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit. Hebrews 9:15 - And for this reason He (Jesus Christ) is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.
