Do you know that since Jesus Christ has been risen from the dead, He has become our high priest (Heb.5:10) and is constantly praying for us, interceding between us and God (Heb.7:25, Rom 8:34), pleading on our behalf? There are two groups of people He prays for; the first are His disciples. Jesus said specifically that He does not pray for the rest of the world but only those disciples that God has given Him. These are those who keep or abide by the Word of God, those that receive Him or listen to Him and those that believe He is the son of God. Jesus prays for the disciples to be united as one and for joy to be fulfilled in them. Jesus also prays for them to be kept from evil and that they will be sanctified by the truth (Jhn.17:9-19) The second group Jesus prays for apart from the disciples, are those that believe in Him by the preaching of the Word and testimony of the disciples. He prays for the unity and perfection of these believers (Jhn.17:20-23) because until we are unified in the knowledge of Him and perfected to the fulness of Christ, we will be like gullible children, easily swayed by false doctrine (Eph.4:13-14). Do not allow yourselves to be tossed about in uncertainty. Be steadfast in Christ and seek understanding in the Word of God. Jesus also prays for love to be fulfilled in these believers (Jhn.17:26) which is demonstrated by the love of God and the love of our neighbours (Mark.12:30-31) How marvellous that Jesus goes before God to plead for us! Fear not and worry not in this confusing world of today. Follow Jesus and believe with your whole heart so that you can have the confidence in your Saviour, the Shepherd of those who are His and obey Him. Know that He lives today, also to pray for us.
